A New Species of Rain Forest Canopy Tree from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Mexico
نویسنده
چکیده
Ocotea heribertoi is a remarkable new species from very high precipitation rain forests of the Chimalapa-Uxpanapa region of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Oaxaca and Veracruz, Mexico. It sports the largest known globose fruit within this large genus, borne in an unusual cupule, while the combination of vegetative and floral features indicate that it is apparently not closely related to any described species.

A New Flagelliflorous Species of Stenanona (annonaceae) from Mexico, with a Review of the Phenomenon of Flagelliflory
Stenanona flagelliflora is described as a new species of small, flagelliflorous tree from deep-soil hill rain forests of the Uxpanapa-Chimalapa region of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in Veracruz and Oaxaca, Mexico. In flagelliflory, flowers are borne on essentially leafless modified whip-like branches that trail across the ground; this is the first report of the phenonenon for the flora of Mexic...
متن کاملTropical Secondary Forest Management Influences Frugivorous Bat Composition, Abundance and Fruit Consumption in Chiapas, Mexico
Most studies on frugivorous bat assemblages in secondary forests have concentrated on differences among successional stages, and have disregarded the effect of forest management. Secondary forest management practices alter the vegetation structure and fruit availability, important factors associated with differences in frugivorous bat assemblage structure, and fruit consumption and can therefor...

متن کاملDiet and trophic level of scalloped hammerhead shark (Sphyrna lewini) from the Gulf of California and Gulf of Tehuantepec, Mexico
We examined the diet and trophic level of Sphyrna lewini in the Gulf of California (GC) during 2001 and in the Gulf of Tehuantepec (GT) during 2005 using data from stomach content and stable isotope analysis of δ15N and δ13C. S. lewini diet was represented by pelagic and benthic prey species where the most important in weight was Scomber japonicus (27.70±4.54%) in GC, while in GT it was Auxis s...
متن کاملLight-related variation in sapling architecture of three shade-tolerant tree species of the Mexican rain forest
The crown architecture of three shade-tolerant tree species (two subcanopy and one mid-canopy) was analyzed in relation to the light regime of the forest understorey. The aim was to examine to which extent shade-tolerant species variate in their crown architecture. Tree saplings (265) between 50 and 300 cm height, and distributed from understorey to variously-sized canopy gaps, were measured fo...
